The navigator has to start from the starting zone which is in the centre of the arena, refer Figure 1.
At any point of time the navigator can detach itself and can extend itself beyond the initial dimensions.
The competition is based on the point system. The team that has the maximum number of points wins the competition.
Time duration of the total run will be 5 minutes.
The participants will get 15 minutes of setup time before the run. In the setup time participants need to mount the camera, boot their computer and have the program ready for execution.
The actual colours on the arena may be slightly different from the ones specified, due to ambient light and texture of materials. Time slots would be given to the participants prior to unveiling of the arena to calibrate their machines to the available light in the arena.
The Run Time clock will be stopped when the last ball present in the arena is dropped into the hole. This will be noted as the Run Time to complete the task.
Time Out: The participants are allowed to call Time Out any time during the run if the machine halts in between. Every time the Time Out is called the participants can pick up the machine and after making the minor adjustments if needed, place it back in the start zone. The time taken for minor adjustments will be included in the navigation time. Minor adjustments are defined as any adjustments in the hardware and resetting the input parameters in the software. No changes in the software or addition in the hardware will be allowed. The maximum time will be reduced by 15 seconds, every time the time out is called.
For example, if a team calls Time Out once, the total time the navigator will get to try and complete the run is 4 minutes 45 seconds. However afterwards if it completes the run in 2 minutes, its Run Time will still be 2 minutes. The 15 second time-out penalty does not apply to your Run time but to the total time.
The team can use on-board camera. The navigator at a single point of time can take feedback from overhead as well as on-board camera for navigation.
For putting each ball in the corresponding hole, team gets 20 points. If the team is able to complete the task within 5 minutes, time left in seconds will be added to the total points tally.
If the ball goes into a different coloured hole, no point will be awarded and the ball will not be replaced.
The team having maximum points at the end of run will be the winner.
