    SCRAP........BEAUTY........JUNK........MARVEL........ The only place you can find a coalesce of these is at Techfest 2008, IIT Bombay.  Techfest 2008 brings to you "The JunkYard Wars", your chance to prove your mettle at our very own version of the all time popular TV reality show. If the 'SWAT KATS' could make a plane out of scrap, who's to say you can’t? If you think that you are smart and creative enough to make a machine out of your backyard junk, then join us as we take you for a bumpy ride around our own homegrown junkyard inside the IIT Campus.

    1. Format

    JunkYard Wars will consist of three parts-:

    • Written Elimination Round- The registered teams will have to take a written questionnaire which will be held on 25th January at 2 pm. The questionnaire will comprise of some simple MCQ’s related to the machines used in our day to day lives. It will also test a person's understanding about different mechanical tools and processes. Our basic aim is to check a person's aptitude about coming up with the best possible result from a given set of resources. This might include questions about how things work and some common problems. Teams will be selected for JunkYard Wars based upon their performance in the questionnaire.

    • Second Stage Elimination Round- The top 15 teams will be selected for this round. In this round they will have to complete a given task for which they will be provided with certain Junk. This task will be the same for all teams. More specific details about this stage will be provided at the time of the competition. A specific number of teams will be eliminated and the remaining teams will move on to the next stage.

    • JunkYard Wars- This is the final round which is based on the popular television series 'JUNKYARD WARS'. For this round, teams will be required to make a machine which satisfies the given problem statement, which will be announced at the time of the event.


      NOTE: The elimination rounds will be held on the first day of Techfest and the finals will take place on the last two days.

    2. General Rules-

    1. Each team may consist of a maximum of 4 members. Teams may have students from more than one educational institution.

    2. The tasks and other details regarding the second and third round will be provided at the time of the event.

    3. The organizers reserve all rights to disqualify any team for usage unfair means.

    4. In case of any discrepancies, decision of the organizers shall be final and binding for all.

     

    3. Eligibility

    • Any person with a valid identity card of his/her educational institute is eligible to participate in THE JUNKYARD WARS.

     

    4. Registrations

    • No need for prior registration. You just need to sit in the Written Elimination Round which will be held on 25th January at 2 pm.

    • Information regarding venue can be found during Techfest at Assistance Desk.
