About the speaker:
Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri is a well-known environmentalist on the international scene. As the Chairman of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), he works for providing a scientific basis to various aspects of human-induced climate changes & their impacts. As the Director-General of TERI (The Energy & Resources Institute), he has incessantly pushed for sustainable development, optimum management of bio-resources & energy-saving mechanisms. His role in encouraging environmental research in India cannot be overemphasized. He works conscientiously on spreading awareness about pressing issues like global warming. IPCC, under his guidance has been jointly awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Pachauri holds an M.S. & a Ph.D in Industrial engineering & a Ph.D in Economics. Thanks to his wide-ranging expertise in environmental issues he has been a member of many national & international committees, both academic & industrial. He has also authored several books, papers and articles in his field.
In appreciation of his work, Dr. Pachauri has been awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan by the Indian government & the ‘Officer of the Legion of Honour’ by the French government.
