Save Our Planet

The earth is on 'fire' and everyone from the who's who to the roadside hawker have taken it upon themselves to save out mother earth. We, at Techfest 2008 will like to do our small part in preserving this beautiful planet for the future generations yet to see the abundant beauty that nature has to offer.

What we wish to do can be summarized in two quotes, one from a billionaire from the Wild West and the other from a famous leader closer home.

Just like everyone else who has jumped onto the bandwagon we too plan to publicize the need for stopping global warming by taking small steps like conserving electricity one bulb at a time and recycling waste one bag at a time. Still we feel that with an engineering background to support us we can make many significant contributions to the process of obtaining solutions to this problem. This vision of ours is reflected in the events that we plan to host at Techfest 2008.

Two competitions namely SolEx and Eco House aim to provide viable engineering solutions for the impending disaster. The underlying principle behind SolEx is the use of the abundant solar energy and its conversion to effective work. Eco House is based on the new building being constructed for the Department of Energy Sciences at IIT Bombay. Participants are expected to design the building keeping in mind sustainability and energy efficiency.

Apart from the competitions a lecture on climate change and its effect on human life will be delivered by Mr. Rajendra Pachauri (Chairman, IPCC) during Techfest 2008. An exhibition on various cutting edge scientific researches happening across the world in the field of sustainability will also be showcased at IIT Bombay.

We expect that everyone who is remotely associated with Techfest will help us in achieving our dreams of making this world a better place.
