       Anti Malarial Drugs

Plasmodium falciparum is a protozoan parasite causes cerebral malaria in humans. It is transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes. Malaria kills over a million each year and some 3.2 billion people living in 107 countries or territories are at risk (WHO 2005). The real problem is that it is getting resistant to currently available drugs. To circumvent this problem, we need to understand the basic biology of Plasmodium falciparum. Cultures make it possible to have a large population of parasites to study.
