With a growing population, an increase in healthcare spending, the advent of medical tourism and a strong engineering and medical talent pool, India is poised to become an important player in the global healthcare market. The time is ripe for a new generation of entrepreneurs in the healthcare space, to rise up and design new systems, devices, technologies, business models and delivery mechanisms that can improve the quality of healthcare in the country. ELIXIR is an attempt to find and reward entrepreneurial engineers and designers who will leverage their expertise and domain-specific training to work in an interdisciplinary team with physician and industry mentors to come up with solutions to real problems that affect real people.
